Nature is the satellite that informs my artistic motives; its forms, its cycles, its processes, etc. We humans think we are apart from nature and yet its language is hardwired into our very DNA. We are mice scampering through a maze from which there appears no escape and we think that nature is that maze. What I focus on through my art however, is that nature is not a maze, but the means by which we can escape the tangled maze of our own minds. It constantly speaks to us through its infinite parts. The ways that the natural world has come to stand in as symbols, omens, personality traits, etc. offers a wealth of ways to address ideas obliquely, allowing the viewer to have their own emotional reaction without being spoonfed a meaning or what or how to feel. It is ultimately a collaboration between the creation and the viewer.

My art is influenced by the materials that come to me. This can be found objects, ordinary, overlooked, parts, pieces, scraps from hardware stores, thrift stores, and junk stores that are repurposed, or elemental substances like clay, copper, walnut wood, or river rock.. Then comes the period of experimentation- a puzzle to solve- where objects and materials are allowed to interact with each other, eventually learning how these sometimes contrasting pieces fit together and speak. It is through this intuitive game of play that what I want to say eventually comes to light and guides the way.
